Rene Castellano's DORKS 10th Anniversary

Sun Nov 29, 2009, 1:39 AM
My friend Rene Castellano will soon be putting out a trade paperback celebrating the 10th Anniversary of his original comic book DORKS.

I remember reading through the original DORKS collected stories, and being impressed with the quality, quantity, and originality of Rene's artwork.

What's especially amazing is that he's still got tons of great ideas and concepts for additional DORKS stories just bursting out of his ears, and he's still running strong 10 years later.

So kudos to Rene for his unwavering dedication and commitment to his comic creations, and the resultant success of his DORKS comic books.

You can read up on some of the early history behind Rene's comic books and the comic book company that he started from scratch, here: Idiot Press Comics Blog

Rene had mentioned to me that there was an opening for a pinup in his upcoming DORKS 10th Anniversary book, and asked if I wanted to draw something.

I said, "Heck Yeah!"

So I read through the original DORKS trade paperback again and came across this one scene that was pretty mysterious, since it didn't contain any dialogue to outright explain the scene as it unfolded.

It was a very brief moment in the storyline, but it caught my attention and piqued my interest.

So since this was a 10th Anniversary of DORKS, I decided to kind of revisit/recreate that one particular scene, mystery intact and all, sort of like a tribute piece.

If you look at the "Tuesday, November 17th, 2009 - Guest pinup artist" entry on his blog, you'll see Rene's original page, and my 10th Anniversary version that I drew.

The awesome Benny Fuentes :iconbennyfuentes: provided colors for my pencils, and did a great job - I'm really pleased with how it turned out.

I hope you guys dig the tribute!

So be on the lookout for the DORKS 10th Anniversary Edition, coming soon to a comic book store near you.
